Using the DSS

Surgical Procedure

1. Choose from two available sizes and connect the DSS modules to form a brace of the required lenght. The modules must be used in pairs and positioned with a mate at the same sternal level. Insert the vertical limbs into the respective intercostal spaces.

2. Bend the limbs to secure their posterior position against adjoining ribs.

3. Close the hemistema with the usual monofilament stainless steel wires. The wire may be passed through the intercostal spaces as the surgeon chooses, particularly those protected by the DSS.

4. Tie the stainless steel wires forcefully and with confidence. The DSS is designed to protect bones tissue from direct contact/fricton from the wires.
